Today, when I was searching the web for some nice pictures for this website, I accidentally saw a picture of an egg sculpture. I got attracted to it immediately and I scolded myself for missing a post on this site about such a nice and skillful art.

I have always been fascinated with Egg Sculpturing or Egg Shell Sculpturing chiefly due to the skill it demands from the sculptor and when finished it presents a the life with a new look. Egg shell sculptors use eggs of emu, ostrich, geese, rhea, turkey and chicken. Each of these eggs has its own quality that helps the design and makes the sculptures more beautiful. Egg of Emu is dark green and while carving two colors of teal blue and white are revealed. The sculptors use these natural colors while carving the piece of art on the Egg shell.

How are the Egg sculptures carved ?

The Eggs are first emptied and cleaned. When the egg is dried, the artist draws the sketch of the artwork directly on the egg shell with a pencil. Then using sharp tools of his choice the artist cuts and engraves the artwork. After finishing the work, the eggs are usually bleached to get rid of the membrane inside the shell, if any. The eggs are dried and displayed for sale. The artworks usually come with a sign of the artist on the egg shell. A certificate is also issued to the buyer stating that the artist has produced the work and that it has been hand carved.

This is a true story about a girl of just 12 inches when she was born. Diana was 24 week pregnant. This is her second conception. Several complications had forced for emergency cesarean. She gave birth to a girl child who was only 12 inches long and weighed only one pound. It was due to the premature cesarean.
The doctors said she will not make it. If at all, it would be for that night only. But the parents did not lose hope and asked the doctors what will be her health if she survives all perils. It was hard for the doctor too, to answer this. He said in a gentle tone that she may never walk, she may be dumb, blind and she may have to suffer with cerebral palsy and several other problems like improper growth of brain etc.

The parents had to bear all those shocking words of the doctor. But they never lost their hope. What added to the pain was that they can't take the baby in their arms. They can't even kiss her. She was only 12 inches long and she has been subject to various medicines and careful treatment. It was horrible for them to see their daughter fight for life tangled with wires and tubes.

Miraculously, the baby started growing ounce by ounce and after two months it was time for the parents to take the baby to their chest !

After a few days the doctors discharged the baby with gentle warnings about the little girl's health.

The baby slowly started growing just like a normal child proving the doctors wrong. She started to crawl just at the right time, walked just at the right time and started talking just at the right time as any other normal child would do !

She was born on March 10, 1991.
